Feature update: Renaming and managing positions
Published: August 18, 2025
I've heard feedback from coaches that it's a little tricky to rename positions and to manage positions across all formation. So I've made a few changes.
Renaming players
Previously, the only way to rename players when editing a formation is to double-click on them, type a new label, and then hit the "Enter"/"Return" key to confirm the change. This is okay, it's not obvious if you don't know it already.
Now, when editing a formation, you can select a player and see the new "Rename Player" option in the toolbar. This is much more obvious and intuitive.

This opens a modal when you can choose a new label for the position and to preview the change before you confirm.

After hitting the "Rename Player" confirmation button, you'll see the changes take effect. You'll still need to save the changes to the formation for them to persist.

This change will only occur on this formation, if you want to make changes to position name and color across all of your formations, check out the next section...
Managing positions
The new "Positions" tab allows you to make changes to positions across all formations.
This is great if you want to change the label or color everywhere, or if you want to merge two different labels into one position.

You can see a list of all positions alongside how many formations include this position.
Tapping on the three dots on the right presents two options: "Edit position" and "Merge positions".
In "Edit position", you can change the label and color of the position, and see a preview of your changes before you confirm.

In "Merge positions", you can choose two positions to merge into one. You can only choose positions that are not used in the same formation.
At the second step, you can confirm the new label and color you'd like to use for the merged position.

And that's it for these changes. I hope this makes it easier for you to draw plays and manage your playbook exactly as you intend to.
